Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Infrared Saunas
What is EMF and why does it matter?
EMF (electromagnetic field) is produced by all electric heaters. In infrared saunas you sit 12–18 inches from the heaters for 30–45 minutes per session. Budget saunas often emit 10–50+ mG at sitting distance. All Summit Infrared models emit under 3 mG, verified by third-party testing. Always ask for the measurement at sitting distance, not at the heater face.
What is full-spectrum infrared?
Full-spectrum means the sauna emits near, mid, and far infrared simultaneously. Far infrared provides deep tissue penetration and cardiovascular effects. Mid infrared improves circulation and joint flexibility. Near infrared supports skin cellular rejuvenation and collagen stimulation. Budget saunas typically emit far infrared only. All Summit Infrared models are full-spectrum.
How long does assembly take?
Indoor infrared saunas: 30–40 minutes with one person. All hardware is included. No power tools required. Video assembly guides are available for every model.
How much does it cost to run?
Approximately $0.25–0.50 per session at average US electricity rates. A 1-person model running at 1,400W for 45 minutes uses roughly 1 kWh. Daily use costs approximately $10–15 per month.
What electrical outlet do I need?
1-person models (909MRX, 909MHX, SH02, SR07, SH07): standard 120V/15A household outlet. No electrician needed. SH01: dedicated 120V/20A circuit. SR01: 120V/15A standard outlet. SR02: 240V/30A (electrician required, ~$200–400).
Outdoor Saunas
What foundation do I need for a barrel sauna?
A level concrete slab, compacted 4-inch gravel bed, or pressure-treated timber platform. We provide complete foundation specifications with every purchase.
How long does assembly take for outdoor saunas?
Barrel saunas: 4–8 hours with 2 people. Cabin saunas: 6–8 hours. All staves and panels are pre-cut and pre-numbered. No power tools or cutting required. Video assembly guides are provided.
Do outdoor saunas work in winter?
Yes. Canadian Timber outdoor saunas are designed for year-round performance including harsh winters. Kiln-dried cedar handles freeze-thaw cycles without warping. The Harvia heaters reach full operating temperature in 30–45 minutes even in cold weather.

How does shipping work?
Indoor infrared saunas ship free via standard freight within the United States. Outdoor barrel and cabin saunas ship via freight with delivery to your driveway. Typical transit time is 7–15 business days.
